一、Common media for resin drum pumps
1. Mainstream Synthetic Resin Media (Most Commonly Used)
* Epoxy Resins: Liquid epoxy, epoxy diluent, epoxy curing agent, two-component epoxy adhesive
* Unsaturated Polyester Resins: General-purpose UPR, vinyl ester resin (styrene-containing system)
* Polyurethane Resins: Polyether polyol, isocyanate (black and white), PU adhesive, elastomer resin
* Acrylic and Alkyd Resins: Thermoplastic acrylic, waterborne acrylic, alkyd resin, modified acrylic
* Phenolic and Amino Resins: Liquid phenolic, urea-formaldehyde resin, melamine resin
* Other Commonly Used Resins: Silicone resin, unsaturated resin, modified resin, emulsion resin, UV resin
2. Resin-Matching Auxiliary Media (Often Shared with Resins in Pumps)
* Styrene, toluene, xylene, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, ethyl acetate, etc. (solvents/diluents)
* Curing agents, accelerators, coupling agents, color pastes, filler slurries
* Aqueous solutions and dispersions of waterborne resin systems
3. Key Selection Tips (Directly Affects Pump Usability)
* Resins containing styrene/organic solvents → Flammable and explosive materials require explosion-proof drum pumps.
High-viscosity resins (paste/thick) → Select screw/high-viscosity drum pumps.
Strongly corrosive/acidic resins → Select pump tubing made of PVDF, PTFE, or 316L.
Easily curing resins → The pump body must be cleaned immediately after use to prevent seizure.
II. drum pump suitable for extracting resin
1. Determine the motor/power type based on whether it is flammable or explosive:
(1) Solvent-containing, flammable resins (unsaturated polyester, styrene system, solvent-based epoxy)
Requires: Explosion-proof drum pump
Electric: Ex d II BT4/CT4 explosion-proof motor
Pneumatic motor drum pump (naturally explosion-proof, safer)
Strictly prohibited: Ordinary motor, non-explosion-proof speed-regulating pump
(2) Water-based resins, solvent-free epoxy, acrylic emulsion
Usable: Ordinary electric drum pump
No risk of explosion-proof areas, low cost, easy to operate
2. Determine the pump structure based on viscosity:
(1) Low viscosity resins (water-based epoxy, diluent, acrylic, UPR)
Suitable for: Centrifugal drum pump
Large flow rate, fast speed, low cost
(2) Medium to high viscosity resins (epoxy A glue, polyurethane, alkyd resin)
Suitable for: Flexible screw drum pump / high viscosity piston pump
Strong self-priming, does not shear materials, can pump viscous fluids
(3) Extremely high viscosity / Paste-like resins (thick-film epoxy, PU black material, adhesives)
Suitable for: high-viscosity screw pumps, plunger-type drum pumps, booster-type drum pumps
3. Determine pump pipe material based on corrosivity
(1). Weakly corrosive / neutral resins (ordinary epoxy, water-based resins)
Material: PP, PVC
(2). Moderately corrosive, solvent-resistant resins (vinyl ester, acidic phenolic, styrene-containing systems)
Material: PVDF (preferred), 316L stainless steel, PTFE
(3). Strongly corrosive + high-temperature conditions
Material: PTFE lining, Hastelloy and other special materials
4. Determine structure and usage requirements based on ease of curing
Easy-to-cure resins (polyurethane, two-component epoxy, phenolic)
Suitable for:
Simple-structure, easy-to-clean drum pumps
Screw pumps / Piston pumps are superior to centrifugal pumps.
Key requirement: Clean immediately after use to prevent pump seizure.
5. Quick selection guideline (easy to use on-site):
Flammable: Check for explosion-proof design
Viscosity: Check for structure
Corrosive: Check for material
Easy to cure: Check for easy cleaning.
III. Core Principles for Resin Drum Pump Selection
1. First Principle: Safety First
Any medium containing volatile solvents such as styrene, toluene, xylene, acetone, or esters, or with a low flash point, is considered flammable and explosive.
Explosion-proof tank pumps must be selected:
Electric: Ex d II BT4/CT4 explosion-proof motor
Pneumatic tank pump (naturally explosion-proof, highly recommended)
Strictly Prohibited: Ordinary motors and non-explosion-proof variable speed pumps for flammable resins.
2. Second Criterion: Viscosity Determines Structure
Low viscosity resins (epoxy thinner, unsaturated polyester, water-based resins)
→ Select centrifugal drum pump
Medium-high viscosity resins (epoxy A glue, polyurethane, alkyd)
→ Select screw drum pump, high viscosity flexible pump
High viscosity/paste/thixotropic resins (PU black material, thick paste glue)
→ Select high viscosity screw pump, plunger pump
3. Third Criterion: Corrosivity Determines Material
Neutral/Weakly corrosive: PP, PVC
Strongly corrosive/Solvent resistant: PVDF, 316L, PTFE
Seals: Prefer fluororubber FKM, perfluoroether, solvent resistant and anti-aging.
4. Fourth Criterion: Anti-curing and Anti-clogging
Easy-to-cure resins (epoxy, PU, phenolic):
Select easy-to-clean structure
Clean immediately after use; prevent material residue from curing and seizing.
Resins containing fillers or powder:
Select large-channel, dead-angle-free pump body
Prevent small impeller centrifugal pumps from being jammed by particles.
5. Fifth Principle: Compliance and Matching with Operating Conditions
Complies with workshop explosion-proof zone ratings and safety regulations
Compatible with: 200L chemical drums, IBC containers
Temperature, pressure, and flow rate meet process requirements
Anti-static and grounding measures are in place
